Withdrawals Continue At Coonoor Tea Auctions (08-Feb-2010)
Around 28% of the 16.36 lakh kg offered for Sale No: 5 of the e-auctions of Coonoor Tea Trade Association remained unsold due to lack bids at the base price. At existing prices, teas worth Rs 3.30 crore had to be withdrawn for want of buyers even after dropping Rs 2 a kg.
"Among CTC teas from bought-leaf factories, our pekoe dust (PD) grade got the highest price of Rs 133 a kg. Three of our grades got Rs 108 and more", Mr Dinesh Raju, Managing Partner, Darmona Tea Industry, said.
"Our broken orange pekoe (BOP), auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, got the highest price of Rs 131 in the leaf market. Our red dust (RD) got the second highest bid of Rs 130 in the dust market", Mr Prashant Menon, Managing Partner, Homedale Tea Factory, said. Blue Mont Estate got Rs 127, Shanthi Supreme Rs 126, Professor Rs 124, Hittakkal Estate Rs 122 and Sree Tea Supreme Rs 120. Altogether, 39 grades obtained Rs 100 and more.
